Information & Conditions: Farris Creek / 402
Updated 7/4/10
Status: Good to Go!
Current Conditions: Farris Creek road access is closed. Access this route via the Canal Trail and Strand Bonus.
Detailed Description:
Farris Creek is a change of pace from the Strand Hill ride, and rolls through a beautiful valley below Doubletop Mountain. Farris and Trail 402 are both a little longer and more technical than Strand Hill.
Follow the directions to Strand Hill to start. After climbing from Brush Creek Road, go straight ahead at the fork in the road (Strand Hill is left and up.) Stay on the double track up and through a gate, then down a quick hill. Stay left here, passing the Farris Creek Trails 409 and 409.5 on the right. Continue up the beautiful wetland valley on the road. Cross Farris Creek and climb up through a grove of aspens, then down and up again through more meadows. Here you will pass the 402 Trail, marked only with three very large rocks. To continue to Farris Creek, stay left with the road. It gradually narrows to a singletrack. It will climb gradually to a fence (please close the gate behind you!), and then head downhill and over a broken down fence. Here head left for a technical descent to the Canal Trail. On the Canal Trail head left. You will pass the Strand Hill and Strand Bonus Trails coming in from the left. Roll through the sage, cross the canal and end on Brush Creek Road. From here, turn left and back to town.
If you choose to ride 402, you’re in for some more climbing. A rowdy descent, a little more climbing, and a very technical downhill bringing you to Brush Creek. Cross the creek and turn left on Brush Creek Road. After a short section of doubletrack, you’ll see a singletrack branching off on the left. This scenic trail follows Brush Creek, and involves some very steep and exposed side-hilling. The trail becomes a grassy two track near the end, then rejoins Brush Creek Road. Either take the road all the way back to Highway 135, or turn left on the signed Trail 409 (at the junction of the two track and Brush Creek Road.) Descend to Brush Creek (stay left when the trail splits.) Wade Brush Creek (it can be extremely swift in the spring, be careful!!) and ride on Trail 409 until it’s intersection with the Farris Creek Trail. Here it becomes the Canal Trail, and stay with this back to Brush Creek road. You will pass the Strand hill and Strand Bonus Trails coming in from the left.
